Fresno, CA (Jan. 29, 2010) – Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited Fresno this morning, just a day after the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act awarded California $2.25 billion for the state’s high-speed intercity rail systems. It is the largest funding of its kind when compared with any other state.
The high-speed rail system in California could be a reality by the next decade, and would be the first in the country. The nearly $40 billion project could create up to 600,000 jobs. The rail will have two phases, one from Los Angeles through the San Joaquin Valley and to San Francisco. The second will stretch from Sacramento to San Diego.
Other leaders joined Schwarzenegger, including Congressman Jim Costa and Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin. | Advertisement | |
